Pair Killed In Central Jersey Crash, Driver Charged: Prosecutor

An elderly pair from Maryland was killed in a crash Tuesday evening, June 13 in Highland Park, authorities said.

A Mercedes driven by Abeer Viriani, 34, of Iselin, struck a Subaru occupied by Peter Palmer, 75, of Easton, MD, and Carol Paul, 77, of Easton, MD, around 5:30 p.m. at Route 27 and North 10 Street, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said.

Both Palmer and Paul were pronounced dead at the scene.

Viriani also struck a Hyundai Elantra, the driver of which sustained minor injuries.

Viriani sustained serious injuries and was taken, along with the driver of the Elantra, to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where they were treated for their injuries.

Viriani was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree Aggravated Manslaughter and two counts of second-degree Vehicular Homicide. He is being held pending a pre-trial detention hearing in Superior Court.
